Have you ever wanted to know your ash from your walnut or your beech from your hornbeam?  Come and learn what makes ash so distinctive in the landscapes of Kent. This tree ID walk will offer a practical guide to being able to identify all of the native trees in the landscapes of Kearsney Abbey, with a special focus on ash trees.

This walkshopwill cover the foundations of tree identification, including tree reproduction, structure and growth, how to identify trees throughout the seasons and a walk among the ash trees to practice your skills. The course is run by Mike Phillips who has been working with and around trees in Kent for many years and will be a guided tour of the trees at Kearsney Abbey.

Mike Phillips first started teaching people about trees and how to identify them alongside coordinating the Kent Tree Warden Scheme.  Kent Tree Wardens look after the trees in their locality and are still operating today as an independent group.  Mike was the training officer at Kent TCV (now Tree Conservation Volunteers).  His work also includes working in both community and commercial woodlands and working with people to enhance the biodiversity of their woodlands.
