Part of our series of Ash Walks
Trosley Park covers 170 acres of beautiful woodland and chalk downland on the North Downs and provides some spectacular views. Once part of the Trosley Towers Estate, Trosley Country Park is now home to a rich variety of wildlife, and a mixture of woodland and open chalk grassland slopes.
We will stroll along the Woodland Trail on the top of the Chalk Scarp, which is based on the old carriage drive and provides relatively easy access, through the Ancient Woodland which is rich in Ash trees, with Yew, Beech, Birch, Hornbeam and Oak. Look closely and you will see the evidence of how our ancestors coppiced many of the trees, especially the Ash on this site, leaving some very fine Ash coppice stools which are both rich in wildlife, and also living green monuments to our past. We will search for the signs of the wildlife and the history that haunts these woods and see how old woodland practices are being re-introduced to help take care of our ancient woods. The trail also offers spectacular views over much of West Kent.
