Elham Valley Walking Festival: In Celebration of the Ash

Elham Valley Walking festival host The Ash Project on a walk through one of Kents most ash dieback affected woodlands

Saturday 2 June 2018, 11:15-1pm

Meet at Car Park in Peene, CT18 8BA, (immediately left after the old railway bridge)

Gain insight into both the scientific and cultural importance of this very special tree on a walk through one of the most affected woods in Kent. Ashholt or Ashley wood has been designated a site of special scientific interest for the ash coppicing that makes the wood distinctive, it is an ancient woodland with a number of rare species found in its ground flora.

The walk will be led by a member of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’s The Ash Project and you will see for yourself the ecological challenges this tree faces. We will also talk about the process of commissioning artwork and essays in celebrating the beauty and importance of this tree.

Following the walk there is a Post Walk Social and Celebration of Walking at The King’s Arms Beer Garden, The Square, Elham, CT4 6TJ from 4 to 6pm.   Come and have a relaxing time and enjoy the company of fellow walkers.
