Ancient Ash Woodland Walk

Ancient Woodland provide precious habitats for all kinds of wildlife and also host a number of rare species of plants.  We will walk through the woods looking for the clues that can tell us how long the woods have been here, and why.

Only 3,090 square kilometres (760,000 acres) of ancient semi-natural woodland survive in Britain – less than 20% of the total wooded area. On this walk we will learn about what makes these woods special and how we can protect it. The walk will be conducted using the methodology that was developed for the  ancient woodland inventory, we will provide participants with plant and wildlife identification and sheets so that you can record what you find.
